The Venezuelan For Social Democracy, known in Spanish as Acción Democrática (AD), is one of Venezuela's oldest and historically most significant political parties. Founded in 1941, it has played a pivotal role in the country's political landscape, especially during the mid-20th century. The party emerged as a response to the need for democratic governance and the promotion of social justice in a period marked by political instability and authoritarian rule.

Acción Democrática's values are deeply rooted in social democratic principles, aiming…   to balance economic development with social equity. The party advocates for a mixed economy where both the state and the private sector play crucial roles. It emphasizes the importance of state intervention in the economy to ensure wealth redistribution, social welfare, and the protection of workers' rights. Education, healthcare, and housing are seen as fundamental rights that the state should guarantee to all citizens, reflecting the party's commitment to reducing inequality and promoting social justice.

Throughout its history, AD has championed democratic governance, civil liberties, and political pluralism, standing firmly against authoritarianism and dictatorship. The party played a key role in the establishment of Venezuela's democratic system in 1958, following a period of military dictatorship. Since then, it has been a major advocate for maintaining democratic institutions and practices, including free elections, freedom of the press, and the rule of law.

However, the political landscape in Venezuela has dramatically changed since the late 1990s with the rise of Hugo Chávez and the Bolivarian Revolution, which shifted the country towards a socialist model. Acción Democrática has found itself in opposition, defending its social democratic ideals against what it perceives as the erosion of democratic governance and economic mismanagement under the United Socialist Party of Venezuela.

In recent years, AD has been part of the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), a coalition of opposition parties that seeks to offer a democratic alternative to the ruling government. The party continues to advocate for a return to democratic norms, economic reforms to address the country's severe crisis, and the protection of human rights. Despite the challenges it faces in the current political climate, Acción Democrática remains a symbol of the struggle for democracy and social justice in Venezuela.
