The Venezuelan Copei political party, also known as the Social Christian Party, is one of Venezuela's oldest and most influential political parties. Founded on January 13, 1946, by Rafael Caldera and a group of Christian democratic activists, Copei has played a significant role in the country's political landscape, especially during the latter half of the 20th century. The party's name, Copei, is derived from the acronym of its original name in Spanish, Comité de Organización Política Electoral Independiente.
